ABOUT

Constituting America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Colleyville, Texas founded by Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actress Janine Turner in 2010 and co-led by Cathy Gillespie since inception. Its core mission is to educate Americans about the Constitution and the rights and liberties it protects for all Americans.

Constituting America accomplishes its mission through several programs, including its keystone We the Future contest for kids. This innovative effort is a competition in which students submit essays, short films, or songs that are designed to educate about the Constitution. Importantly, contest winners are awarded scholarships to help them further their education.

Another important offering is the George Washington Speaking Initiative which features the Constituting America speaking team of award-winning teachers, veterans, board members, and staff. This dedicated group makes presentations both in person and remotely to classrooms across the country.

Constituting America also runs an annual three-month study on a topic of significance to our founding era. This study is called 90 + 90 = 180 Study Program: History Holds the Key to the Future and is a series of essays written by constitutional scholars from the nation’s top universities and law schools.

HISTORY

Janine Turner created Constituting America in 2010 because she was concerned about the decline in knowledge in the United States of the Constitution. Since its founding, Constituting America has significantly expanded its offerings and grown its reach. In 2021, the first year that Americana Corner funded Constituting America’s 90-Day Study, that program had over 870,000 views on YouTube, an increase of 3000% from the previous year.

In 2022, the organization continued to grow its impactful in-school presentation program by visiting 107 schools in 11 states, making over 400 in person, live, Constitution presentations to more 14,800 students in the 2022-2023 academic school year. Constituting America has also expanded its social media presence with over 545,000 2022 website visits and 93,443 followers on Facebook and Instagram.

GRANT PROJECT

The Americana Corner Preserving America Grant awarded to Constituting America funded the promotion of its keystone annual 90-Day study in 2022. That year’s report was entitled “American Exceptionalism Revealed: The Historic Rise and Fall of Worldwide Regimes and How United States Founding Wisdom Prevails.” The study traced a comprehensive history and analysis of the various experiments in government that humans have tried over the past three millennia. In 2022, the Americana Corner advertising spend garnered Constituting America’s 90-Day Study over 1.4 million views on YouTube.
