Heritage Village Museum and Education Center

ABOUT

Heritage Village Museum and Education Center is a living history museum depicting life in Southwestern Ohio through-out the 19th Century.  Homes, out-buildings, and equipment on the museum grounds were moved there from other locations in the region to be preserved and aid in telling the story of the recent past.  Interpreters at the museum provide the facts and stories that bring the Village to life with nostalgic glances of days gone by.

During special events at the Village interpreters demonstrate some of the historic tasks and crafts of the 19th century such as spinning, weaving, candle-dipping, soap making, hearth cooking, carpentry work, herb lore, gardening, printing, trade and bartering, and communication. Located in the Sharon Woods Park in Sharonville, OH, Heritage Village is open Wednesday thru Sundays for tours, both guided and self-guided.

Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center is owned and operated by Historic Southwest Ohio, Inc. a non-profit 501c (3) organization. No tax dollars are used to fund the facilities, staff or operations. Heritage Village Museum & Educational Center is supported entirely by visitors, grants, and donations.

Volunteers and staff provide guided tours, supervise the gift shop, coordinate special events, demonstrate traditional crafts and cooking and present educational programs for over 15,000 guests each year. It is through the generous donation of time by their board and volunteers that they can continue providing quality educational and historical programs and events.

HISTORY

Heritage Village Museum and Education Center is a collection of historic 19th century buildings moved from locations around Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky to save them from destruction. Elk Lick House was the first building brought here, opening in 1971. Eleven more historic buildings and two new structures have been added over time for a village of thirteen buildings.

The organization is dedicated not just to preserving these buildings, but to sharing the stories of the people who lived here. Heritage Village brings to life the history of the region and the people who settled it, connecting visitors with their heritage. Additionally, Heritage Village serves thousands of school children and visitors every year with programs, tours, and events that engage the imagination and enrich their understanding of the past.

GRANT PROJECT

The Americana Corner Preserving America Grant awarded to the Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center, helped to fund the creation of a metal working shop that will be used to demonstrate blacksmithing and tin smithing to visitors during events and educational programs. This hands-on, interactive programming will bring the 19th century to life for both adults and students.

Americana Corner is proud to assist the Heritage Village and Museum with its mission to preserve the Great American Story and to help our fellow citizens grow their love of country.
